Maybe hundreds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And yet\u2014somewhere around stitch number 50\u2014you flip the fabric over and see it: a tangled mess of loops on the underside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;ve all been there. And nine times out of ten, it&#8217;s because of one tiny, almost embarrassing mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Threading with the presser foot down.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s the geometry behind it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Presser foot UP<\/strong>\u00a0= tension disks are open. Thread slides right in where it belongs. Perfect grip.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Presser foot DOWN<\/strong>\u00a0= disks are closed. Thread sits on top like it&#8217;s waiting for a bus. Never gets grabbed properly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Result? Beautiful fabric on top, bird&#8217;s nest on the bottom. Every time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So yes, it&#8217;s geometry. But it&#8217;s also just a habit. And habits take practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our cheat:<\/strong>&nbsp;Say it out loud\u2014<em>&#8220;Foot up, thread. Foot down, sew.&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;Like a weird little mantra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Try it. And if you forget? Welcome to the club.
